October Newsletter

Hello Parents:

This month we will be learning about Fire safety and making some fun projects for Halloween. I would like for everyone at home to begin teaching the children their birthdays, phone numbers and address, we will be working on this in class as well. Also, please practice the Pledge of Allegience and the Our Father with the kids to help reinforce this at home. We will be teaching the children the Hail Mary, this can also be practiced at home. I would like for you to check your child’s extra cothes box to make sure they have fall clothes in their boxes.

I would like to again, encourage you to bring your child to mass at our school either on Saturday evenings or Sunday morning. Feel free to introduce yourself to Father Nick, he would love to meet you all!
I would like to remind everyone that school begins at 8:00 a.m., all children should be in school by 8:10 EVERYDAY! The children draw in their journals and also have snack/circle time in the morning. The children need to be here to complete these tasks and it also helps them learn the routine of our classroom. When children come in late it interupts our learning time.

We will be going on our first field trip this to the Pumpkin Patch on the 15th, we hope that every child will be able to attend, we will be spending two weeks learning about farm animals and farming. This field trip is an hands on learning experience for the children. All parents are welcome to chaperone, if you cannot, your child will be paired up with another parent or Mrs. Susie, Mrs. Hoffman and myself. All children will need to bring a lunch on this day. If you did not purchase the gym shirt yet, there are some available in the main office as well, please do by this date, they need to wear them on the field trip!

The Home School Associoation (HSA) will be selling taffy apples to help raise money for their organization. Their group helps out our children with school supplies, activities and special treats, it would be great if you consider buying or selling them to help out the school. Also, our school is having a dinner dance on the 23th, the cost is $50 it includes drinks, dinner, entertainment and dancing. All procedes will benefit the school, please consider attending!

I would like everyone to talk to their children about keeping their hands to themselves, teasing each other and saying bad words. This has been a big problem last month with the children. We talk to the children everyday about this but it needs to be reinforced at home as well. We encourage the children to be respectful to their classmates and ALL their teachers as well.  Also, continue to remind them to cover their mouths when they cough and sneeze, we have 31 students in the class and they will keep spreading their germs back and forth to each other.

Enjoy the cooler weather and if you have any questions feel free to call between 12:15-1:45 at 312-326-7509! Feel free to email me at mrs.shortino@hotmail.com, I check this everyday! Have a great month!
