The boys and girls of Santa Lucia enjoy a warm and close family atmosphere. Small class sizes and a single lunch period contribute to a building where “everybody knows your name.” The buddy system keeps older children involved in the development of their younger school mates, who in turn depend on that friendship and guidance as part of their moral formation. Buddies work together on liturgical and seasonal activities which build school spirit.
Santa Lucia students create a monthly newspaper to share all the great work that is done around the school. Check out the links below to see issues of SPIRIT for the 2016-2017 school year!
Santa Lucia presents its outstanding students with various awards. The following is a list of awards available to our students:
- Quarterly honors of gold, silver and bronze based on academic performance on quarterly report cards.
- A “Lucian” award is presented annually to an outstanding graduate.
- High School Academic Scholarships are presented to qualifying incoming freshmen.
- Religious Honors (Santa Maria Incoronata and the Crowning of the Blessed Mother) are presented to 8th graders.
- The Michael Phillips Award is presented to two (2) graduates by The FORCE Foundation.
Santa Lucia students have a great variety of programs to augment their classroom activities. Among the after school clubs that they can join are:
- Yearbook committee
- Newspaper committee
- Chess club
- Student government
- STEM Club
- Italian Club
- Spanish Club
The Santa Lucia Athletic Association (SLAA) encourages all students to participate in our Lightning Athletics Program. Our programs are coached by members of our staff, parents, graduates and community volunteers, each focusing on the importance of sportsmanship, fair play and hard work.
Santa Lucia students are part of a cooperative effort with two other Catholic schools to form a football team in the Catholic Grade School Conference’s Green Division.
Girls from 4th-8th grade can participate in both volleyball and basketball.
The basketball program at Santa Lucia offers teams at every grade level. Boys and girls from 1st to 4th grade participate in the BCA League against other schools from Bridgeport and the Near South Side. Our Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys teams from 5th to 8th grade play in the McGuane Park League and various tournaments throughout the year.
